How to add post purchase-upsells to the original order on Shopify with Upsell.com | Shopify | Legacy
In this tutorial you will learn how to add post-purchase upsells to the original order instead of creating a new order in the legacy app.
This option is only available for the following sections:
Legacy Upsell.com allows you to add any products accepted on the sections mentioned above to the original order instead of creating a new order.
If you installed the legacy app after 12 January 2021, this is the default behaviour in your store. If you installed it before that date, you need to manually change the settings as shown in this guide.
Adding upsells to the original order
- In order to add upsells to the original order, head over to the Upsell.com dashboard and, in the top menu, click Settings → General Settings.
- Scroll down to the Order settings section. From the dropdown, select Add items to the original order.

- A new set of Additional/advanced settings will appear, allowing you to control when items are added to the original order.
Selecting sections that add upsells
This section allows you to choose which of the sections will add upsells to the original order and which ones will create a new order.

Setting your item reserve time

If the customer clicks the Buy now button, Upsell.com will add an item to the original order with an “unpaid” payment status and redirect the customer to complete payment at checkout.
By default, Upsell.com removes added items if payment is not completed after 60 minutes, in order not to harm your inventory and fulfilment processes.
This field allows you to control how long additional items are kept on the order when the customer does not complete the purchase.
Handling manual payment methods
For manual payment methods (such as cash on delivery, AfterPay, Klarna, bank deposits, cash, etc.), the customer may complete the purchase of the additional item but its payment status will remain pending.
For these payment methods, you can either hide the widgets or create a new order to avoid removing an item that the customer approved for delivery.

Handling fulfilled orders
This section allows you to choose whether to hide the widgets or create a new order when the original order is already fulfilled, since items cannot be added to fulfilled orders.
Once you are done, click Save to apply these settings. From then on, upsells will be added to the original orders instead of creating new ones.
Well, that’s a wrap!
